Tuesday 26th - Day One...and so it starts!

So today I woke up (and more importantly also got up) at 6.30am… that is normally unheard of for me unless we are heading off on holiday or something equally exciting.
I actual fact I started to wake up at just gone 6am when the morning light was quite bright, and just dozed a bit until the alarm went off.
I went and let the chickens out, then headed back inside and cooked both of us some breakfast.

7.15am – 2 boiled eggs plus 1 slice of bacon, 4 cherry tomatoes and 2 large mushrooms.

After my 31 hours without food that filled me up and I hope it will sustain me for a good few hours. I have a shopping delivery coming between 10-11am, with only good foods in it…including various nuts (not roasted or salted), olives, leafy greens and goats cheese. My aim is to make sure I cook fresh things every day (no resorting to ready meals, which is what I often do when fed up or lacking time), so I could do with doing a bit of planning!

I will be heading out to get to work on my vegetable patch (which my father-in-law kindly weeded for me last week), digging it over and doing some planting. I did a little yesterday so have some pumpkins, marrows and runner beans on the go already.
I also want to get the poly tunnel going this week too, as currently it is just providing greenhouse services to a few dozen seedlings in pots. I am behind on last year so hope that once the plants are in they will catch up quickly.

Before I go out I thought it might be a good idea to think about how I am feeling and share those thoughts so we can see how things change as times go on. Now in the past few weeks I have been feeling just out of sorts…sluggish and although not ill, just not quite right. I have had issues with excess mucus (gross to talk about I know), particularly in the morning and with this my ears have felt a bit bunged up on and off. My back has been quite achy though I know this is partly down to me not doing my back exercises every day…something I intend to change. I have also had some aching around my left elbow, which I think started last time I went to give blood as the lady seemed to twist my arm a bit more than normal…but for it still to be annoying seems not quite right. Anyway, so basically I have not been feeling particularly healthy…plus I have had little to no motivation. I am hoping that by changing what I eat, giving myself a set bedtime and developing a bedtime routine to help me relax and get a good nights sleep, getting up early to make the most of the day and doing more exercise I will start seeing changes in the way I feel.
This morning I feel pretty good, but as I sit here I know I need to get out and get busy as if I stay too long in front of this screen the ‘get up and go’ will get up and go…lol

So I will track what I eat later in the day and possibly expand on what I plan to be eating, and not eating, from now on (however if I don’t get time to do that today, I will do it tomorrow).

11.15am – Some nuts (when the shopping arrived I unpackaged the nuts and put them all together in a jar and felt the urge to eat some!)…1 of each – pecan, macadamia, Brazil, walnut and pistachio

2.15pm – Natural yoghurt, chopped banana, 1 tablespoon each of rough oats and mixed seeds with a teaspoon of honey drizzled on top.

4.30pm – Another five mixed nuts

7.00pm – Seasoned oven baked chicken breast on a bed of stir fried kale, bacon (one slice), onion and mushroom, with courgettes and cherry tomatoes on the side and some avocado on top.

For afters I had few cherries with coconut cream and a sprinkle of cocoa powder.

That is all for today, along with a few pints of water during the day.

So a quick run down of what I will be eating…or rather not eating.
I will be cutting out all heavily processed/ready made foods, including but not limited to…cakes, biscuits, sweets, crisps, ready meals etc. Two of the main things which I want to avoid are grains and processed sugar. I will however allow myself some oats occasionally and honey (as you can see by the yoghurt I had today) if I want a sweetener. I also intend to eat very little potato and rice, substituting lots of veggies instead.

Well, there you have it…the first day is almost done and I am happy with how it went, not I just need to stick with it. :-)
