8.30am - 2 x bacon, 1 x egg, 2 x mushrooms and 1 large tomato
Headed off to the farm. Helped put up an electric fence to separate two groups of ewes and lambs. Cleaned out five pens. Then I helped bring two lambs into the world (on my own!...well, in actual fact the ewe did most of the work). I have seen lambs being born before, but usually I am at the head end holding the ewe to stop her running off as soon as the lamb is born. This time I was at the business end...it was fascinating. When the lamb was born it was still in the sac, so I broke that and made sure it's nose and mouth were clear...then held it up by it's back legs and gave it a gentle swing (to make sure there is no liquid in the lungs apparently), then gave it to the mum to lick. Soon after she started straining for the second time and I repeated the procedure on the second lamb.
It was very rewarding to be there to help (the farmer had had to go off on an errand), though she was a good Mum and I'm sure she would have managed alone...still, it is something I am proud to say I have done.
Ann (the farmer's wife) asked if I wanted some lunch, I said no as I would have yoghurt when I got home...she doesn't take no for an answer though, so gave me a big bowl of it with some tin foil over the top on my way out. I have to say it was rather yummy and went down very well.
1.00pm - Beef stew (with carrots, onion, peas) on a large yorkshire pudding.
Two gluten/wheat free (hereby known as g/w free) cookies with a cup of tea for afters.
4.45pm - Another g/w free cookie
8.00pm - Chicken breast (oven baked), baked vegetables (courgette, pepper, mushroom, onion and tomato).
We have a new mattress coming tomorrow and I am hoping it will help my back...fingers crossed.
