So this is day three of the five day detox (I wrote most of this yesterday...when it was infact Tuesday/day three...just finished it off and posted Thursday), over half way through the first part of the plan to get into better habits. I am still undecided as to whether I want to continue with this strict regime for longer than the five days...or whether I will start introducing other foods in limited amounts.
If I was strictly following The Harcombe Diet, which the five day detox comes from, then the next step would be to introduce other foods one per week...this allows you to listen to your body and see which if any of the foods you re-introduce are a problem for you (one of the main principles is that food intolerances can cause cravings, bloating and water retention all of which can hinder your efforts to lose weight). I have a suspicion that wheat could be a problem for me (one of the main culprits according to Harcombe), but bread, cakes, biscuits and other flour/wheat products are things that I do intend to really try to avoid...at least until I am well on the way to my target weight (or for the very rare special occasion).
This morning I had a bit of a lie in (well little compared to what I had been getting into the habit of having), I was up at 9am and headed to the gym (sounds posh but it is exercise equipment in one of our outbuildings). I did 20mins of upper body work, weights and general flexing and moving (I did some 'swimming' movements front crawl/breaststroke whilst standing...it was surprisingly effective), with two five minute hits on the bike in between.
I thought it best to give my calves a break as that is what seems to ache most the day after I have done step workouts, and I believe you need to allow the muscles to rest in between workouts. So I have decided to try and alternate my work outs day on day.
When I got back to the house I had a dip in the bath whilst my bacon and eggs was cooking, then enjoyed my breakfast with a large glass of water (I am trying to ensure I drink plenty of water as I know that is something I never used to do enough of).
I got a phone call from the farmer who I do some cleaning work for (I had asked if I could come and help at the farm for a day) he said I could come tomorrow. It is lambing time, so I am really looking forward to going and helping out. That might end up being my exercise for the day depending on how strenuous the day is, I am starting at 9am...but not sure what time I will be there until. I will play it by ear I think.
Lunch was a 'reconstructed omelette' (basically I didn't want to take the time to make a proper omelette, so 'fried' my veg and ham in a little water, then added an egg to make a kind of scrambled egg one) and vegetables.
Then dinner was a pork steak cooked in the oven and served with root veg mash (parsnip, carrot + swede) and oven baked veg.
No food after 7.30pm...feeling good about sticking to the detox :-)
